Healing Heroes
Why Sauna?
The two Veterans started Healing Heroes to help other Veterans experience the physical, mental, and emotional healing benefits of Sauna and Cold Plunge. Mike worked with Josh to build the first two mobile sauna trailers for Healing Heroes and is excited about the difference this movement is making in the lives of hundreds of Veteran, Military, and First Responder Families.
The Beginning of Healing Heroes:
I started using sauna in 2020 while on a 48-hour water fast in Ely Minnesota with my brother-in-law. We were fasting to grow closer to God, and little did I know that he had a specific plan for me that weekend. At the end of the fast, I fired up the sauna stove overlooking Fall Lake and proceeded to enjoy the heat and steam rolling off of the rocks in the stove. Weak from lack of food and dripping in sweat I walked out onto the deck of the sauna to sit in the snow and look at the stars; that is where I felt that God was directing my path to build a sauna for my community of friends and family back in the twin cities.
When I returned from the trip to Ely I immediately started building the sauna in my kids backyard fort on 17 Jan 2021. I fired up my backyard sauna on 29 January 2021 with my oldest son who at that time was 12 years old. Since that day my family has been using the sauna and we have laughed, cried, and have had some of the most honest communication of our lives. Friends who have served, friends who are struggling, and friends who what to grow together in our friendships have all grown accustomed to using this small sauna in our backyard. I could not believe the healing that I was seeing right before my eyes all because of a wood fire heater in an old kids fort in a backyard in Apple Valley MN.
The vision of Healing Heroes was born from the healing of Heroes that I have witnessed personally.
